The Big Reds jumped out to an impressive early lead and never looked back as they defeat Buckeye Local on Saturday by the final score of 41-6.
Cole Porter continued an impressive junior campaign early on as he rumbled in from 33 yards out on just the third play from scrimmage to stake the Big Reds to a 6-0 lead. The defense stepped up on subsequent drives as Cole LaRoche and Porter both picked off passes from Panther QB Seth Richardson and returned them both to paydirt to increase the lead to 20-0. Just a few minutes later, Porter ran in from 14 yards out and the Big Reds were comfortably ahead 27-0 with over four minutes to still go in the first quarter.
The Big Reds’ defense took over from there and was led by senior Griffen Heatherington who tied a school record with four QB sacks in the game. He also led the team in tackles with six tackles which included five tackles for a loss.
Bobby Roth and Kaleb Pitchford both added insurance touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Porter once again led the offensive unit with a workmanlike 23 carries for 187 yards to go along with his two touchdowns. Pitchford added 55 yards on just six carries to go along with his lone score.
The Big Reds improved to 5-0 and will travel to Lisbon on Friday to face Beaver Local.
